Personal protective equipment
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is gear or clothing designed to protect the wearer from physical, biological, or chemical hazards. PPE is commonly used in a wide range of industries, including maritime, construction, healthcare, and manufacturing, to minimize the risk of injury or illness.
In the maritime industry, PPE is of utmost importance due to the harsh and unpredictable nature of the sea environment. The following are some common types of PPE used in the maritime industry:
- Protective clothing: this includes clothing designed to protect against cold weather, heat, flames, chemicals, and other hazards. Protective clothing may include coveralls, wetsuits, gloves, and boots.
- Helmets and hard hats: these are worn to protect the head from impact and to prevent head injuries due to falling objects or collisions.
- Respirators: these are used to protect the respiratory system from harmful substances in the air, such as fumes and dust.
- Eye and face protection: this includes goggles and face shields, which protect the eyes and face from debris, splashes, and other hazards.
