Boats

Boats are collective life-saving device that are used to rescue crew and passengers on a ship in distress or during an emergency. The presence of lifeboats or rescue boats on board the vessel is determined by the International SOLAS-74 Convention and the Rules of the Shippping Register.

How many boats does the vessel need to carry?
The number of life-saving appliances and boats that any vessel has to carry depends on the type of the vessel itself, its navigation area and the number of people on board. On the starboard side of the vessel, boats are assigned odd numbers, while on the port side they are assigned even numbers. Enumeration starts from the bow of the vessel to the stern.

What types of boats can be distinguished?
Boats can be divided into opened, partially enclosed, and fully enclosed. Different types of boats differ in the way they protect people from external factors: rain, snow, low or high temperatures. Open and partially enclosed boats can be launched using davits, fully enclosed boats using the free fall method, as well as using davits.

Can a boat sink?
The boats have enough buoyancy to withstand the most demanding operating conditions. Even a completely flooded and upside-down boat is kept afloat and protects the people inside and is made of a floating material resistant to sea water and oil products. Modern boats, as well as small boats, are made of high density polyethylene or light aluminum alloys.

What are the basic requirements for boats?
A boat must be able to heal itself to an even keel, even when upside down. To sail a sufficient distance from a ship in distress, the boats must have an engine and transmission and a propeller protected from accidental impacts and debris. The engine must be able to be remotely controlled from the wheelhouse and provide a fully loaded boat speed of at least 6 knots in even seas.
The boat is colored orange for better visibility. On both sides in the bow, the name of the vessel is set in Latin letters, and on top of it is its number. The capacity of the boat is also indicated.

You can order various types of boats from well-known manufacturers: Viking, Hatecke, Brig, etc.
