Damage from pathogenic organisms in the water area of marine and coastal ecosystems is increasing every year. The introduction of cleaning systems is designed to limit the negative impact on the local flora and fauna more effectively and, as a result, on the ecology of the region.
The Alfa Laval PureBallast system works by exposing microorganisms to ultraviolet radiation. Free radicals, generated inside the UV reactor, damage cell membranes as a result of the reaction. This destroys the DNA of microorganisms and their ability to reproduce.
